The answer is simple enough; two or more pieces of glass that have been heated to a near liquid state begin to 'fuse' , almost melting into one single piece of glass. The Fused Glass Art at Shimmering glass is often made from hundreds and hundreds of pieces of precisely cut glass, pieced together to create a special design or shape, heated to about 1480 degrees and fused into a single beautiful piece of Fused Glass. This piece of fused glass is then heated again and 'slumped' to create an artistic and unique fused glass bowl or vase, plate or dish.  I've learned something new that seems really strange to me. Glass, when cool at room temperature or at any temperature really, is considered a liquid. Believe it or not, it's true. Despite the glass seeming to be hard, drop it and it will break - at the molecular level, things are moving, flowing, shfting. These molecues are just moving very slowly. Ok, so what does it mean? Heck, I don't know - but I do know when you look at the fused glass art we create at Shimmering Glass, there is movement in each piece.
